Take 4 peeled potato halves and scoop each one out to make potato cups, one of these potato cups should be made from boiled potato. Put each potato cup in a trough containing water.
Now,
A. Keep cup A empty
B. Put one teaspoon sugar in cup B
C. Put one teaspoon salt in cup C
D. Put one teaspoon sugar in the boiled potato cup D
Keep these for 2 hours. Then observe and answer the following questions-
A. Explain why water gathers in the hollowed portions of B and C
B. Why is potato A necessary for the experiment
C. Explain why water does not gather in the hollowed out portions of A and D.

SOLUTION :(A)Because sugar and salt were present in B and C, water from the trough collected in the hollowed parts of the potato in B and C via osmosis.
(B)Potato A is required for the completion of this experiment since it serves as a control. Control allows us to see what changes occurred over the course of the experiment and compare the outcomes.
(C)As the hollowed portion of potato A was empty, water did not collect. Water does not collect in cup D since the potato was boiled, rendering it inactive because the protein structure was denatured during boiling, causing the cell membrane to be disrupted.
