A train is traveling at a speed of 90km/h. Brakes are applied so as to produce a uniform acceleration of -0.5m/s². Find how far the train goes before it is brought to rest.

Answer.

 Here, train is brought to rest, therefore, v=0

u= 90 km/h

Converting km/h into m/s

u = (90×1000)/(60×60)

u=  25 m/s

a= -0.5m/s² (Given)

s=?

Since, [v² – u² = 2as]

Substituting  the values.

0 – (25)² = 2×(-0.5) ×s

0 – 625= -1×s

-625 = -1 s

S = 625m
