 A train starting from a railway station and moving with uniform acceleration attains a speed of 40 km/h in 10 minutes. Find its acceleration.

Answer:  

Since, object is starting from rest, u=0

 Converting km/h into m/s and minutes into seconds

40km/h = (40 × 1000)/(60×60) = 11.11 m/s

10 minutes = 10 X60 = 600 seconds

Since, a = (v-u)/t

Where,

 a= acceleration, v= final velocity, u= initial velocity, t= time taken

a = (11.11 – 0)/600

 

a = 0.01 m/s²
