Introduction

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), located in the capital city of New Delhi, is India’s top medical research institute. For the fourth year in a row, the institute has been placed first in the medical category by the NIRF 2021 rankings. There are now 15 AIIMS in India, including locations in Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, Bhopal, and other cities. AIIMS Delhi was the first of the group’s institutes to open in the country, operating under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the AIIMS Act, 1956.

The institution has partnered with many international universities to develop cooperative research, student, and faculty exchange opportunities. It has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with University College London to facilitate research partnerships and expand the number of academic and student participants.

 

AIIMS Delhi now offers UG, PG, Doctoral, and Super-Specialization programs in 43 disciplines, including Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Biotechnology, and Paramedical Sciences. MBBS is by far the most popular program at AIIMS Delhi. There are 125 places available in the program, and applicants must pass the NEET-UG test. The NEET 2021 Cutoff Scores for the January 2022 Counseling Process are between 138 and 720. (as declared by the NTA). In addition, the annual cost for the MBBS program at AIIMS Delhi is INR 1628. AIIMS Delhi offers internships to all students who are chosen for further study (UG TO PG). Junior residents doing post-graduation degrees receive INR 64000, while senior residents receive INR 64000.

The AIIMS Delhi has two patents, one of which has been approved: ‘Sealbio: a revolutionary non-obturation regenerative approach of endodontic therapy.’ Another patent has been filed for a ‘Method for automated recognition of anatomical landmarks in volumetric data.’ AIIMS Delhi founded the Centre for Integrative Medicine and Research (CIMR) in 2016 intending to bring modern medicine and India’s historic and traditional medical practices closer together.

Scholarships Offered

Students who achieve top marks in the entrance exams for different courses are eligible for merit-based and merit-cum-means-based scholarships at AIIMS Delhi. The ‘AIIMSONIANS’ scholarship has been granted by the Smt Maya Devi Trust and Shri Kirpa Ram Kohli Educational Trust to AIIMS Delhi undergraduate students. The scholarship has a value of INR 10,000. The students will be chosen by a sub-committee of the AIIMSONIANS Executive Committee based on the following eligibility criteria:

  • The AIIMS Delhi scholarship will only be available to the institute’s undergraduate students.

  • Students should do well in their undergraduate courses’ semester exams.

  • Before giving the scholarship, students’ financial backgrounds will be evaluated.

  • Eligible students should submit an application by filling out the Scholarship Application form and sending a passport-size photograph before the deadline.

Placements

AIIMS Delhi does not currently offer direct company placements because the institute concentrates on preparing students for higher education. All UG and PG students can participate in paid internships at AIIMS Delhi and other government hospitals.

  • The AIIMS Delhi offers a stipend of INR 17,900 per month to students enrolled in internship programmes (UG and PG only).

  • Junior residents pursuing post-graduation courses receive INR 64000 per month for a three-year term, whereas senior residents who have finished their post-graduation receive INR 74000 per month.

  • For MBBS grads, the institute also requires a one-year paid internship.

Infrastructural and other facilities

The AIIMS Delhi campus covers a total of 115 acres. In 2017, AIIMS New Delhi established an Innovation Facilitation Division to house AIIMS teachers and scientists as incubatees. In addition, a Bio-Park is being built. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been inked with other incubators to invite startups to participate in commercial projects. In 2016, AIIMS Delhi created the Centre for Integrative Medicine and Research (CIMR) with the goal of bridging the gap between modern medicine and India’s historic and traditional medicinal practises. CIMR is dedicated to holistic healthcare research, documentation, and delivery. ‘Sealbio: a revolutionary non-obturation regeneration technology of endodontic therapy’ has been given a patent.

Another patent has been filed for a ‘Method for automatic recognition of anatomical landmarks in volumetric data.’ The AIIMS Students’ Union hosts the yearly festival Pulse, which is a socio-cultural, literary, and athletic event that began in 1973.

According to a report in India Today on the medical entrance exam, the topper found the AIIMS MBBS Entrance Exam 2018 to be a little more difficult than NEET 2018, despite having studied from CBSE. “The overall difficulty level of the AIIMS paper was a little higher, and it was a little tougher to crack the medical test,” she noted.
