An article is a piece of writing which is written to influence or provide information to a large group of people. A piece of article varies from topic to topic and writer to writer, so it can’t be judged on one basis but still a good article is the one which provides enough factual details about any given topic.
- OBJECTIVES OF ARTICLE WRITING
- It should bring the topic or subject of interest to the foreground.
- The article must discuss all the necessary information.
- Should be concerned with a wide range of topics as well as must be able to make an impact on the reader.
- The purpose of writing an article is to present information on a variety of themes in a long and sustained piece of writing.
- TYPES OF ARTICLES
- Magazine Article: This type of articles have a very limited range of readers.
- Newspaper Article: The articles in this category have a wide range of readers.
- CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD ARTICLE
- Heading: The main thought or motive of the article must be reflected in the heading, giving the reader a brief insight on what the article is concerned about.
- Examples: Use examples to demonstrate a stronghold on thoughts about any given topic of interest.
- Unity of Ideas: Only one emotion is prominent in an article, so make sure to not go ashtray.
- Order: An article should have a very steady, logical and reasonable build of thoughts and interests.
- Coherence: To establish a better connection between different sets of ideas and sentences, connecting words like so, or, but, and, otherwise, hence etc. are used in an article.
- An article must be written in an appropriate format and style.
- Remember to follow within the word limit.
- Plan every step or paragraph of your article carefully.

Format of an article only consists of three things;
- Heading/ Title
- Byline/ Name of the Author
- Body of the Article
