The Indian law institute [ILI] was established in 1956 as a Deemed University and Socio-legal research institute in New Delhi, India. The institute was formed with the main objective of promoting and conducting legal research, education, and training.


As laid in the memorandum of association the institute mainly looks after the following:

  • To promote advanced studies and research in law.

  • Fulfil the economic and other needs.

  • Encourage and conduct investigations in legal and allied fields

  • Improve legal education

  • Publish books, studies.

  • Publish periodicals, etc.
