How are water and minerals transported in plants?

Solution: In plants,water and minerals are transported through a conducting tissue termed Xylem.

In xylem,vessels and tracheids present in the region of roots,stems and leaves interconnected to form a continuous system of water conducting channels that reaches all parts of the plant.In the root region,cells that are present in contact with the soil actively take up ions thereby forming a difference in concentration of ions between the root and the soil.Water moves into the root region from the soil to eliminate the difference in the ions.

Transpiration

The process in which water is lost in the form of water vapour from aerial parts of the plant is termed as transpiration.This process also helps in the absorption and upward movement of water and minerals.

In the day time,stomata are open and during that time transpiration pull acts as the main driving force in the movement of water in the xylem.
