The full form of IGNOU is Indira Gandhi National Open University.

Its named after the former prime minister of India, Indira Gandhi. Estabilished in 1985 by an act of parliament, Its initial budget was 2 crore Indian rupees.

IGNOU is run by the central govenment of India. Its total enrollment exceeds 4 million active students. IGNOU claims to be the largest university in the world. Its situated in Maidan Garhi, Delhi, India. Its aim is to serve people by distance and open education and providing quality content for the same. IGNOU is decentralised into 5 zones : north, south, east, west and north-east.
