It was established as a university of engineering in 1961.

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is one of the 23rd IITs created to be centres of excellence.

The university was later announced as an Institution of National Importance under the “Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963” Delhi.


It was then accorded the status of a deemed University with powers to decide its academic policy, conduct its examinations, and award its own degrees.

IIT Delhi Courses and Fee 


IIT Delhi offers around 100 courses with numerous specialisations. These courses are offered in full-time and part-time modes under UG, PG, and doctoral level programmes.

Recently, IIT Delhi has started providing a few certificate courses of six to one-year duration, including digital marketing, data science, human resource management among others.

IIT Delhi Application Process 2022 


For taking admission to the courses offered at IIT Delhi, candidates should follow the steps are given below:


  • Visit the official web site of IIT Delhi https://home.iitd.ac.in/ on its homepage, click on ‘Admission’. On the downturn menu that come-out further, click on ‘Announcements’. 


  • The admission folder, admission pamphlet, and prospectus can be downloaded from this page. Click on the apply now key to continue further.

 

  • The registration page is unveiled. Click on ‘New user register here’. Fill the registration form with  the details, including name, email ID, contact number, course preference etc. Also create a password for future login.


  • Another, fill in the remaining application form by addressing other details, including guardian info, communication address, qualification etc.

 

  • Upload all the mandatory details in PDF format. Upload a passport-size photograph and signature in JPG/ JPEG format.

 

  • Complete the application process by paying a credit card/ debit card/ net banking.


IIT Delhi Cutoff 


The IIT Delhi cutoff is usually declared through the uptight qualifying examination gateway of different exams such as JEE Advanced. For the same, the cutoff is released via JoSAA counselling. For the GATE exam, the cutoff is released through the COAP.


The university offers admission to its various programs such as M.Tech, M.Sc, and dual degree programs based on the cutoff scores of national-level entrance examinations such as GATE, IIT JAM, and JEE Advanced, respectively.

IIT Delhi Top Alumni


  1. Kiran Bedi- who did her PhD from IITD’s Department of Social Sciences in 1993, became the first Indian female officer in the Indian Police Service and began her service in 1972. 

  2. Raghuram G. Rajan- who received his Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from IIT-D in 1985. He received the Director’s Gold Medal for all spherical performance, became the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

  3. Deepinder Goyal- who received an integrated M Tech in Arithmetic and Computing from IIT-D in 2005, became the founding father of one of the largest food aggregators in the world – Zomato.

  4. Sachin Bansal- Is an Indian entrepreneur and best known as the co-founder of Flipkart. He is also the eighty-sixth wealthiest person in India. Sachin Bansal attended IIT-D and completed a BTech degree in computer engineering in 2005.


  1. Ashneer Grover- who has done B.tech in civil engineering from IIT-D in 2004. He is a co-founder and MD of Bharatpe.


  1. Binny Bansal- who completed her B.Tech from IIT-D in 2005 best known as the co-founder of Flipkart.
