Introduction

Jamia Millia Islamia is a central university in the capital of India, New Delhi. It was originally established in 1920 during British rule. It got the deemed status by University Grants Commission in 1962.

Jamia Millia Islamia was established in Aligarh on 29 October 1920 by Mohammad Ali Jauhar, Hakim Ajmal Khan, Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari, Abdul Majeed Khwaja, and Zakir Hussain under the presidency of Mahmud Hasan Deobandi. It was established in response to the demand of students of the Aligarh Muslim University for a new National Muslim University which would be free from government influence. Jamia admission 2022 is currently ongoing and the entrance exams for most programs will take place in June. Jamia Millia Islamia offers a total of 223 courses in both regular and non-government-funded courses. Additionally, the University also offers distance learning courses at UG, PG, and diploma levels. Jamia Millia Islamia has entered into MoU with Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, Indian Army, and Indian Coast Guard which permits the defense personnel to undertake degrees and diplomas through distance mode offered at the Centre of Distance & Open Learning in one sitting.

In addition to its flagship BA program, Jamia Millia Islamia offers various UG courses under multiple streams. Admission to most of these courses of Jamia Millia Islamia in 2022 is entrance-based. Till 2021, admission was completely Jamia Millia Islamia entrance exam based. However starting in 2022, admission is subject to a valid score in CUET for a few UG courses. The duration of the UG courses ranges from three to five years based on the nature of the program.

These programs are offered for two years each. Admission to all PG programs is based on a valid Jamia Millia Islamia Entrance Exam score, followed by a candidate’s performance in the Personal Interview (PI) round. A candidate must have more than 30% marks in the descriptive part of the entrance test to qualify for the interview.

Jamia Millia Islamia Ph.D. admissions depend on candidates’ performance in the written test conducted by Jamia Millia Islamia, accompanied by an interview round and assessment of the research proposal. Candidates have to secure at least 50% marks each in the test and appear for the next rounds.

JMI has a Centre of Distance & Open Learning (CDOL), which offers four UG and three PG programs, including B.Ed, BA, BCom, BBA, MA, MBA, and MCom. The University also offers several Diplomas, PG Diploma, and Certificate courses in distance learning mode. All these courses are registered by the University Grants Commission-Distance Education Bureau. Candidates who want to pursue admission to these courses apart from B.Ed and MBA are shortlisted based on their merit of previous qualifying exams. For admission to B.Ed or MBA program, candidates need to appear for Jamia Millia Islamia Entrance Exam.
