Letter to the principal is written to the principal of a school or college by either the student or their parents for a variety of different reasons.

No matter what reason or what request has been described in the letter, it should be formal, straightforward and professional without any improper language, casual or friendly nature.

EXAMPLE 1: Write an application to the principal of your school requesting him to allow you a change of section.

The Principal,

Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School,

Tilak Nagar,

New Delhi

25 November, 2021

Subject: Requesting a change of section

Respected Sir,

I am a student of IX- A of your school. I shall feel obliged if you allow me to change my section from ‘A’ to ‘B’. This change will help me in many ways.

Many of my friends are my neighbours. They read in Section ‘B’. If I am transferred to the ‘B’ section, we shall all be together. Then we shall be doing our home- work together and help one- another. That way I shall be able to do better in my studies.

I am sure that you will allow me this change.

Thanking you,

Yours obediently

Kavita

EXAMPLE 2: Write in about 100 words a letter to your Principal, requesting him to send you a provisional and character certificate by post.

The Principal,

D.A.V. Sr. Sec. School,

Sector- 8,

Chandigarh

25 November, 2021

Subject: Requesting to send the documents by post.

Respected Sir,

I beg to state that I have passed the All India Secondary School Examination this year from your school. My roll number was X. I secured a high first division and was placed in the merit list. I had been a member of the school cricket eleven. I took an active part in the activities of the school. I won prizes in declamation contests.

Since, I have to apply to the U.P.S.C. for a competitive examination. I need a provisional and character certificate. Being unwell, I cannot come to school personally. I hope you will oblige me by sending the certificate.

Thanking You,

Yours obediently

Rahul
