Introduction
The Medical College Admission Test is a computer-based reputed examination for proposed medical students in the United States, Australia, Canada, and Caribbean Islands. It is designed to evaluate problem-solving, critical thinking, written analysis, and knowledge of scientific concepts and principles.
About MCAT Exam
Considered amongst the most prominent medical entrance exams in the world, the Medical College Admission Test [MCAT] is a standardized examination that evaluates a candidate’s skills of critical thinking, problem-solving and medicine-related knowledge. As a medical ability-test admission, it is offered by the Association of American Medical Colleges [AAMC]. Institutions use the exam scores to judge the suitability of the candidate with the nature and requirements of the offered programs. While the degrees may vary, MCAT is most widely accepted for admissions into courses after MBBS or other medical degrees. An important fact prospective candidates must make note of is that if you wish to begin medical practice in India after completing your course from abroad, qualifying for the FMGE exam is mandatory.
Eligibility Criteria for MCAT Exam
The eligibility criteria for taking the MCAT exam is that you must be planning to apply to a health professions school. For international students, one must have applied or have an MBBS degree. In cases where applicants do not mean to apply at a health professions school or are already enrolled in medical courses excluding MBBS, special permission must be obtained. In order to request special permission, one needs to mail at mcat@aamc.org clearly mentioning the reason for taking the exam. After this, the MCAT program office will evaluate and check the request and reply to it within five business days. It is recommended that proposed candidates keep in mind the applicable registration deadlines.
