Introduction

The Delhi government has chosen to establish a ‘world-class’ medical college in Dwarka to enhance the healthcare workforce, with admissions beginning in 2025, according to the municipal health department on Friday.

 

The statement stated that a 600-bed maternity and child care center with cutting-edge facilities will be built on the premises of the Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka Sector-9 to improve newborn care.

 

Satyendar Jain, Delhi Health Minister, stated that the Arvind Kejriwal government is always trying to improve residents’ health care and strengthen public health infrastructure.

Motive of this Initiative

  • “Over the next several years, the number of beds in government hospitals will substantially expand. In addition, we are aiming to increase the capacity of various hospitals.”

College establishment in Dwarka

The Delhi government has chosen to establish a medical college in conjunction with the Indira Gandhi Hospital. The facility will be developed in Sector 17, and it will improve the city’s healthcare infrastructure while also assisting Delhi is becoming a leader in medical education, according to the announcement.

 

About the courses

  • The introduction of several courses in medical and health sciences is being considered for the medical college, and the department stated that the campus will be completed by 2025.

 

  • In the beginning, only MBBS courses would be available. However, courses for additional medical degrees, such as MD, MS, DM, and so on, will be available in the future, it added, adding that a specific focus would be placed on research in addition to study.

 

Entrance exam details

The National Testing Agency will administer NEET for admission to this college on 125 seats in the first session.

 According to the statement, the admissions procedure will be open, and the professors will likewise be of high caliber.

 

Hope for an enlightened future

 

According to the health department, the Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka is a city government-run hospital with the same services as a private multi-specialty hospital.

 

Delhi Health Minister Jain stated that the city’s healthcare infrastructure has seen significant changes in the recent seven years. Not only is medical infrastructure growing, but “new physicians are also being prepared and educated, and the number of beds has grown,” he noted.

 

He said that the new institution will allow Delhi to build a new “army of physicians,” and that the college would also give employment chances to those who aspire to be doctors but had been denied entrance owing to the “exorbitant rates of private medical colleges.”
