What is the SHDF Scholarship?
The Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council in association with the Sikh Human Development Foundation (SHDF) in the USA has initiated a scholarship for Sikh or North Indian students from economically weaker backgrounds. The SHDF Scholarship will provide financial help ( up to Rs 33000 every year) to students pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma courses.
The SHDF Scholarship was introduced to encourage students from weaker financial backgrounds to pursue higher education.
Eligibility Criteria
The SHDF Scholarship is only for those students pursuing higher education in recognized Indian institutes or universities. It is also only for Sikh and Punjabi students.
Students studying any undergraduate, postgraduate or diploma courses are eligible. Students who have passed 10th and 12th grade can also apply but scholarships will only be granted if they will or are pursuing higher education from a recognized Indian university.
Students need to score at least 60% in the two latest examinations.
The family income of the student should be equal to or less than Rs 2,50,000 per annum.
Students need to have an active email ID and phone number to communicate with NISHKAM.
Working students are also eligible. They will have to provide the necessary details of their work in the application form.
How to Apply?
Students need to download the application form from Nishkam’s official website.
Students will need some documents to fill out the form. The documents include:
Recent passport sized photographs
Mark sheets for 10th and 12th grade and the latest examination (if any).
Attested copies of the gazette of the professional course that the student is pursuing.

Any proof of family income.
A copy of the front page of the pass book or a cancelled cheque.
An approval from the college authorities with the chairman’s or dean’s signature, date and college’s stamp.
After downloading and printing a hard copy of the form, students will need to read the instructions and fill out the form accordingly. There shouldn’t be any dots, dashes or blanks.
Students will have to send that form along with the required documents either by mail or any other means at Nishkam’s headquarters in New Delhi. Incomplete forms will be rejected.
Nishkam will conduct a writer test and an interview for the students whose applications they have accepted. The written test and the interview will happen offline and students will have to bear the travelling and other expenses.
The admit cards for the written test will be sent via email. The venue and the time for the exam will be mentioned on the admit card. For more information, students can visit their official website.
