Features of monocot stem

  • It is circular in shape

  • It do not show secondary growth due to absence of cambium

  • Tissues are not arranged uniformly

  • Epidermis contains thin walled cells

  • Trichomes are absent

  • Pericycle is not multilayered

  • Vascular bundles are conjoint and numerous

  • Pith region is reduced and not differentiated

 Features of dicot stem

  • Ground tissue is formed of endodermis, pericycle, cortex, pericycle and pith

  • Hypodermis is formed of collenchyma cells

  • Presence of phloem parenchyma

  • Pith is well developed in dicot stem

  • Vascular bundles are open and found in less numbers

  • Old vascular bundles are replaced by newly formed ones
