Solution:

  • Prokaryotic cells contain a cell wall covering the cell membrane except in exception:mycoplasmas lack cell wall

  • Cytoplasm is the fluid matrix that fills the cells of prokaryotes

  • Absence of a well defined nucleus

  • Genetic material of prokaryotes is naked and not surrounded by nuclear membrane

  • Presence of small circular DNA in addition to the genomic DNA.The small circular DNA is called plasmids.

  • Absence of membrane bound cell organelles

  • Presence of non-membrane bound organelles like ribosomes

  • Presence of mesosome formed by infoldings of cell membrane

Functions of mesosome

Mesosomes are structures that help in cell wall formation,DNA replication, respiration, secretion processes, and increasing the surface area of the plasma membrane and enzymatic content.

Inclusion bodies

Reserve materials found in prokaryotic cells are stored in the cytoplasm in the form of inclusion bodies, which are not covered by any membrane system and appear free in the cytoplasm.

Examples:phosphate granules, cyanophycean granules and glycogen granules.
