Solution: The birds have a series of modifications that enable their flight including the following:

  • They have a streamlined or spindle-shaped body that help minimise resistance during flight.

  • Their forelimbs are modified into wings, thus enabling flight.

  • Their body is covered with feathers and the ones in their wings and tail enable flight. Besides, they keep the bodies warm.

  • They have a pneumatic endoskeleton so that their body is light and they easily take flight. They have light and spongy bones because of the presence of air cavities.

  • They have strongly developed flight muscles or breast muscles, and keeled sternum for its attachment.

They have additional air sacs to supplement respiration.
