Psychology is a multidisciplinary as well as inter-disciplinary subject, because it comprises many disciplines like social science, developmental studies as well as natural science also. Psychology as a discipline deals with human beings , deals with the scientific processes and even the developmental stages of humans. It also encompasses the biological aspects also; the organization of brain.
As it is a multidisciplinary subject, it consists of several branches. The main two branches of psychology are pure and applied. Under these two main branches there are many sub-branches also.
Psychology as a social science:––
Psychology is an inter-disciplinary subject , it deals with inter-related domains of various disciplines. It is also considered as a social science, as it deals with the people, their behavior, the circumstances accompanying the human behavior and the various factors like relationship in a group and with the group members, relationship bonding with the family members etc. As a social science it includes the study of the ways of perception of other peoples’ attitude and behavior. As the researches comprises of people from both the disciplines of sociology and psychology.
Psychology as a natural science:–
Psychology can be considered as a science discipline also because it deals with the systematic processes as well as with the quantitative measurements and even the theories which are unsupported and often criticized.
In this approach it deals with the various methods like observations, experiments, non experimental studies and with obtained data. Experiments can be of laboratory bases and non-laboratory based also.
Measurements is included in psychology but it is often difficult than it is in other sciences such as physics or chemistry, as it deals with human behavior which are not so obvious or absolute.
But the experimenter or the observer may try to design , manipulate the settings of experiments and observations to get significant results. For example, we can count the number of times a person behaves one way in one situation and another way in another situation , or we can measure the time taken to make a response or action in one situation to another.
