Solution:Changes are happening in both the animal and plant kingdoms.Variations in organisms are responsible for causing evolution. The process of evolution leads to the formation of new species from existing ones.

Another reason for changing the system of classification is that there are millions of organisms, including plants, animals, and microbes  that have not been discovered yet.So it is also very important to classify these organisms.

Classification of organisms involves not a single step but several steps in which each step forms a rank or category. In classification, each category is considered as a unit of classification. All the categories of classification form a taxonomic hierarchy.Taxonomic studies also led to development of categories kingdom, phylum or division, class, order, family, genus and species

Advantages of classifying organisms

  • Easy to learn about diversity in plant and animal species
  • To understand the interrelationships between organisms
  • To learn about evolution in different organisms
  • To adopt new methods of conservation
  • To understand more about development in organisms
  • It helps in research purposes
The Five Kingdom System of Classification
Five kingdom classification  is proposed by R H Whittaker.
  • Kingdom Monera-It includes bacteria and archaea

  •  Kingdom Protista-It includes algae and protozoa
  •  Kingdom Fungi-It includes fungi
  • Kingdom Plantae-It includes plants
