A driver of a car travelling at 52km/h applies the brakes and accelerates uniformly in the opposite direction. The car stops in 5 seconds. Another driver going at 3 km/h in another car applies his brakes slowly and stops in 10 seconds. On the same graph paper, plot the speed versus time graphs for the two cars.  Which of the two  cars travelled farther after the brakes were applied.

Answer:

Case I : u = 52km/h , v = 0

Converting km/h into m/s

(52 × 1000)/(60 × 60) = 14.4m/s

Time Taken = 5 seconds

Case II : u = 3km/h , v = 0Converting km/h into m/s

(3 × 1000)/(60 × 60) = 0.83m/s

Time Taken = 10 seconds
