As we know psychology consists of two major branches , the first one is Pure or basic psychology and the second one is Applied psychology.

Pure psychology deals with the theoretical perspectives of studying behaviorism and mind, it deals with principles, theories and approaches of different schools of psychology and even the psychologists.

In Applied psychology , the emphasis is upon the perspectives of applying the subject to various domains of life for managing life style, solving the problems etc.

Applied psychology mainly consists of practical approaches, even in pure psychology there is a practical approach as psychology itself is a subject possessing both practical and theoretical perspectives, whether it be a pure psychology or applied psychology.

As applied deals with the use of or the utilization of the theories, concepts, principles of pure psychology in different fields of life for rendering services to the society.

If someone opting for the subject of psychology as to explore in career then the people who become psychiatrists mainly studies the branches of pure psychology as they will get the degree M.D in psychiatry. They can prescriber medicines or anti psychotic drugs to their patients even they can practice counselling for giving suggestions to solve their problems like in school and in clinics.

For instances, the cognitive psychology, child psychology falls under pure psychology but theirs’ theories, principles and knowledge can be applied to the people who are suffering from behavioral problems.

Like by studying child psychology, the psychologists can counsell the child for reducing his\her symptoms and changing of lifestyle to overcome the problems .

Like  Industrial psychology falls under applied branch and it mainly deals with the facts of employee and employer, their motivation towards work etc.

Mainly if anybody wants to opt for pure psychology then the person have to pursue the degree of M.phil to become a practitioner or expert. But M.phil is not provided for all the sub branches of applied psychology. So , there is no such major differences between the pure and applied psychology only few such differences occurs between them.
