Solution: Nephrons are the filtration units present in the kidney. These structures are considered as the functional and structural units of the kidney.

Structure of nephron

Each kidney is made up of a large number of nephrons. The main parts of this structure include Bowman’s capsule,Glomerulus,Loop of Henle,Proximal convoluted tubule and Distal convoluted tubule.

Functioning of nephron

  • Blood enters into the kidney to remove nitrogenous wastes like urea through renal artery

  • Blood capillaries present together with the Bowman’s capsule collect filtrate

  • Substances like glucose, amino acids, salts and large amounts of water in the initial filtrate get selectively reabsorbed when urine flows through the tube.

  • Urine formed in each kidney enters into a long tube called the ureter

  •  From the ureter it passes to urinary bladder and urine stored in the bladder

At high pressure, the bladder expands and makes the urge to pass it out through the urethra.
