Motion is the change in position of a body with time but, what exactly is the cause of motion?

The reason behind the motion of a body is force

Force is defined as a push or pull which can cause a body to move, stop, change speed, or change direction.

It can also change the shape and size of a body. For example, the shape of a rubber band changes when stretched.

Some examples of force:

  • Frictional force: It opposes the motion when the surface of one body comes in contact with the other.

  • Gravitational force: It is the attractive force between two bodies with mass.
