GOLGI BODIES

  • It was first discovered by Camillo Golgi.

  •  Structure : It consists of a system of membrane bound vesicles which are arranged parallel to each other in a stack called cisterns

  • As these membranes are in connection with ER, they form a portion of the complex cellular membrane.

  • The material synthesized near the ER is packed and sent to various parts inside and outside the cells.

  • Function : storage, modifications and packing of products in vesicles.

  • It is also involved in the formation of lysosomes.

LYSOSOMES

  • Structure : these are membrane bound sacs which are filled with digestive enzymes.

  • Formed by rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER).

  • These are sort of waste disposable system.

  • Keeps the cell clean by getting rid of any foreign materials as well as worn out cell organelles.

  • Lysosomes contain powerful enzymes which help in breakdown of all organic materials.

  • When a cell gets damaged, the lysosomes burst and the enzymes digest their own cells. Therefore, they are also called as ‘suicidal bag’ of a cell.
