Archimedes’ principle

Tanusri Gururaj, Academic content writer of Physics at Edumarz

  • Archimedes’ principle:

If a body is fully or partially immersed in a fluid, it experiences an upward force. This upward force experienced by the body is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced.

  • Apparent weight = weight of the object – buoyant force experienced

  • Applications:

  1. Lactometer

The purity of milk is determined using this.

  1. Hydrometer

The density of various liquids is measured using this.

  1. Designing of ships
