INTRODUCTION TO HEREDITY AND EVOLUTION
Keshav Bhatia, Academic Content Writer at Edumarz
Heredity is the inheritance of features and traits by offspring.
There are different mechanisms by which variations are created in both Asexual and Sexual reproduction.
The selection of variants by different factors(including environmental) form the basis for evolution.
These traits get expressed through DNA expression and coding.
Some traits are acquired whilst some are genetic.
Speciation is the process by which natural selection and genetic drift make organisms so different from each other that they evolve into a new species.
Fossils, evolutionary relationships, and homologous organs provide excellent evidence for evolution.
Evolutionary differences provide a basis for classification.
Evolution should not be compared with progress because it is a product of the generation of diversity and the shaping of diversity by environmental selection.
Humans have artificially evolved organisms such as wild cabbage and dogs into different breeds through selective breeding to produce the organism having the desired trait, this is known as artificial selection.
Human evolution is the result of early human ancestors migrating from Africa to different parts of the world.
