Humans contain 22 pair of autosomes and 1 pair of sex chromosomes that is a total of 46 chromosomes.Girl child have homologous XX chromosomes and male child have heterozygous XY chromosomes.A child who receives X chromosome from father will be a girl and child who receives Y chromosome from father will be boy.

Sex determination prohibition act in India
It was published in 1994.
According to this act, no genetic labs or clinics registered under this act help in determining the sex of a child using prenatal diagnostic techniques.
This act also does not allow the performance of prenatal diagnostics by a medical practitioner or gynecologist in places not registered under this act.
This act also does not allow selection of sex in infertility fields.
This act also prohibits sales of ultrasound machines to hospitals,labs or persons not included in this act.
Prenatal diagnostic techniques are only conducted for the detection of abnormalities like
-Genetic abnormalities
-Chromosomal abnormalities
-Congenital diseases
