Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER): Courses offered, Admission criterion 2022


JIPMER offers various Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Super Speciality, Fellowship, Diploma and Certificate courses. It also offers PhD Programmes in the medical field.

All the program details are discussed briefly below.


  • Under Graduation

Undergraduate courses (UG) in JIPMER: The institute offers 3 courses in Undergraduate courses.


  1. MBBS: In this course, the institute offers 150 out of which 5 seats are exclusive for OCI/NRI. The duration of the program is five and half years which also includes one year of internship.

Admission is made every year and the call for submission of application begins in March. Online registration kocan be done from the website of JIPMER www.jipmer.edu.in.  The course starts in July and the deadline for the application is in September.


B.sc. Nursing: The institute offers75 seats for the nursing course options 8 nmand the duration of the program is 4 years. The entrance exam is conducted in July every year. Admission is done between August and September. Online registration can be done from the website of JIPMER www.jipmer.edu.in.


  1. B.sc. (Allied Medical Sciences) : The duration of the course is three years and has a total of 58 seats. Online registration can be done from the website of JIPMER www.jipmer.edu.in.


  • Post Graduation


  1. MD/MS: The entrance exam for MD/MS courses happens in November and May respectively. The admission process is biannual and takes place in January and July. The seats offered for this course is 200 (100 seats in the January session and 100 seats in the July session). Online registrations can be made online through the website www.jipmer.edu.in.


  1. M.sc.(Allied Medical Sciences) : Entrance exam is conducted in July every year for the admissions. Total seats are 25 and the following courses are offered.

  1. M.Sc. Nursing: Online registration of application can be done through www.jipmer.edu.in. Specialisations available for this course are child health nursing, community health nursing, medical-surgical nursing, mental health nursing, obstetrics and gynaecology nursing which have 5 seats each available.


  1. Master of Public Health (MPH) : the course offers a total of 25 seats and the duration of the course is 3 years out of which 1 year is a compulsory internship. Registration can be done on www.jipmer.edu.in


  • Super Speciality

Application for DM/M.Ch. is available in November and May every year and the admission process takes place biannually. Seats for the courses are 20 for DM and 16 for M.Ch.

  • Fellowship

The duration of the Fellowship program is one year and the number of seats is 12. The entrance exam is conducted in June every year.

  • PhD. Program

The seats available for this program are 18. The minimum duration for the program is 3 years and the maximum is 5 years. Admission is conducted in July every year. For online registration www.jipmer.edu.in

  • Diploma

Diploma is offered in Nursing with a total of 50 seats in 5 disciplines. The duration of the course is one year. The entrance exam is conducted in December every year.

  • Certificate Course

The certificate is provided for Emergency Medical technicians and the course is for 1 year with a total of 20 seats. No entrance exam is conducted and admission takes place according to the merit basis based on the average marks obtained in 12th. std. in physics, chemistry, botany and zoology or biology.
