Joseph jogs from one end A to the other end B of a straight 300m road in 2 minutes 30 seconds and then turns around and jogs 100m back to point C in another 1 minute. What are Joseph’s average speeds and velocities in jogging

Answer:

(a)  From A to B,

Distance covered = 300m

Time Taken = 2 minutes 30 seconds = 150 seconds

Velocity = Displacement/Time = 300/150 = 2m/s

Average Speed =  Total  Distance Travelled/ Total Time Taken = 300/150 = 2m/s

(b)  from  A to C 

Average Speed = Total Distance Travelled /Total Time Taken 

Total Distance Covered = 300 +100 =400m

Displacement  = 300 – 100. = 200m

 Total Lime Taken = 150 sec +60 sec. = 210 seconds

 Average speed = 400/ 210 = 1.90m/s

 Velocity = Displacement/ Time = 200/210  = 0.95m/s
