Why do we lack civic sense and how to inculcate it among children?
Last week when I was coming back from school, I saw a huge plastic bag full of leftovers of food flung into the middle of the road from a speeding car. I saw many people overtaking that particular car, but none cared to tell the driver about the plastic bags falling from the vehicle. So I stopped a bike and told him to follow and stop the car to inform the driver about the problem. Finally, I was able to catch the driver and inform him about the issue when he stopped at a traffic signal. Then the driver thanked me for the help.
After that, I started to think about why people lack civic sense. People always care about themselves, their work, and their time. They never care about others and, they are selfish. The main reason for such behavior is the lack of value education in children at a very young age. Today only academic content is taught in school. Students think that only academic skills are important in life. So they lack civic sense.
Schools should teach children about the moral values of life. Only then students would develop a civic sense for the betterment of society.
