INTRODUCTION TO THE CHAPTER

  • Living creatures are organisms that exhibit all aspects of life, such as growth, movement, reproduction, and breathing.

  • Cells create tissues, tissues form organs, organs form organ systems, and organ systems constitute a live body, and this organization should be maintained by the flow of molecules around all the time, as all structures are made up of molecules.

  • Life processes are the maintenance functions that occur even while organisms are at rest in order to keep them alive.

  • To stay alive, one must engage in essential life functions such as nutrition, breathing, transportation, and excretion.
