When Kamaraj former, chief minister of Tamilnadu, visited a particular place, he saw many playing on the streets without attending the school. This scene worried Kamaraj and, he came to know those children were not attending school because of poverty. So he introduced a mid-day meal scheme. Many students started attending school after the implementation of the plan. Due to the success, other states implemented the mid-day meal scheme.  As a result, Millions of children from the deprived sections of society get nutritious food leading to good health, are attracted to the schools, kept from going astray, and develop into good citizens. Although this scheme is very beneficial, it needs improvement in the following areas. The quality of foods given in the mid-day meal scheme is not good. Many students get sick after eating the food. Food items for the mid-day meal scheme traded in the black market. Sometimes insects are found in foods given to children. Students get their food very late.

The mid-meal scheme is a good one. It satisfies the hunger of millions of children. But it should not only fulfill the hungry of the children also it should give nutrients. So government must take the necessary action as soon as possible to rectify the drawbacks.
