  • Cells are considered as structural and functional units of living organisms. It consists of various cellular components that are responsible for carrying out various functions of the cells. These structures are called cell organelles and they make up the structural organisation of a cell.

FUNCTION

1

CELL MEMBRANE or PLASMA MEMBRANE

  • It is the outermost covering that separates the content of a cell from the outer environment.

  • It is flexible and is made up of proteins and lipids.

  • It allows the entry and exit of substance in and out of the cell and also prevents the movement of materials outside the cell. Hence it is considered as Selectively permeable.

2.

CYTOPLASM

  • It is the fluid content inside the cell membrane.

  • All the cell organelles are present in this fluid.

  • It acts as a medium which provides a medium for biochemical reactions in cells.

3.

CELL WALL

  • It is the hard covering outside the cell membrane.

  • It is composed of cellulose ( a complex substance that provides structural strength).

  • It gives shape to the cell.

  • Only present in plant cells,

  • It provides plants mechanical strength to withstand environmental changes.
