The story “The Lost Child” written by Mulk Raj Anand describes the feelings, sentiments, joy and agony experienced by a child, when the little boy goes to

a fair with his parents. He was brimming with life and laughter during the beginning of the story. He was fascinated by the toys in the shops that lined the way, but was well known of the cold stare of refusal from his parent’s eyes

The child comes across toys, flowering mustard field,

Dragon flies, butterflies, doves, a huge crowd of people entering the fair, sweet shops, garlands of gulmohar, rainbow colour balloons, a snake charmer and a

Roundabout swings. Later on, he came across roundabout in a full swing, he requested his parents to have a ride on it. But, there was no reply. When he turned to look at his parents, there was no one which made himrelaized that he had lost his way.

After realizing that he has lost his way, a deep cry rises within his dry throat and along with a sudden jerk of his body, he runs from where he stood. His face is convulsed with fear and eyes full of hot and fierce tears. He runs in search of his parents in all directions crying, “He wants his mother, he wants his father!”.

Later on, a man from the crowd came to his rescue, with him trying to console the child through different ways. The story ends with the child reiterating his sob that he wants his mother, he wants his father, without explicit mention of his unification with his parents.
