Female reproductive system

The female reproductive system consists of  oviduct, ovary, uterus, cervix, and vagina. In females, eggs are formed in the ovaries. When a girl child is born, her ovaries consist of thousands of immature eggs. After attaining puberty, eggs start to mature. In each month, one egg is formed from the ovary. An ovary egg reaches the uterus through the fallopian tube. The uterus connects with the vagina through the cervix.

In females, sperm enter into the vagina during sexual intercouse. From there, they move upward to the oviduct region.Sperm and egg combine to form the zygote. The fertilised egg then forms an embryo and the embryo is implanted in the uterus.

Placenta is the specialized tissue that helps the embryo to collect nutrition from mother’s blood.Waste materials produced by embryo also transferred into mother’s blood with the help of placenta. The placenta also produces a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin hormone (hCG).
