Why is the offspring formed by asexual reproduction referred to as clone?

  • Asexual reproduction refers to reproduction involving only one parent. Hence, the offspring produced are identical to the parent body.

  • Offsprings are exact copies of the parent cell in terms of their appearance, genetic information, etc. Hence, they are known as clones (same morphology and genetic information).
